High Plains road to Clovis

The High Plains road to Clovis is a rolling grassy plains reminiscent of where the buffalo roamed.

The trans continental railway parallels the road to clovis (which sees a train about every 30 minutes all night long, 200 yards from the motel).

The antelope feed along the road and I suspect often cross to the peril of passing cars and trucks.

We stopped at Fort Sumner the place where the US sent  7,000 Navahos and 400 Apaches in 1863 as the civil war ended.  It is a sad and tragic chapter in American history beautifully illustrated in the Bosque Redondo monument;  a sad reminder of why we must teach our kids American  history.

We stopped at a nice museum but it was closed.

I’m not saying that Clovis reminded me I was in a time warp, but the Comfort Inn had wi fi with an ethernet connection  and when I reported that the wi fi wasn’t working in the breakfast room, the girl at the desk said “oh yeah, somebody was complaining about that yesterday”
