SanMiguel de Allende Report - Day 2

Day 2 - Trolley ride around the city - to take photos .  Bad idea - an old trolley bouncing along stone and cobblestone streets, punctuated with speed bumps, made blurry most of the photos.  Many beautiful Baroque church facades - several of churches built with private/family money.  The silver mines were good to this town - while the native Indians who worked in the mines were treated as slaves.

The flamboyant Parrochia facade - neo-Gothic

The Jardin (main plaza) activity

Not fancy - but the food is what counts!
Gorditas - we've found our food!  similar to the central and S. American  versions -  (arepas) these are griddled thick corn and harina pancake stuffed - cheese, guacamole,  chicken mole, chorizo etc - there were about 15 fillings.  Cost - about  $.75

White Ribbon

Another

A Black ribbon...what do you think the significance is?

lots of carved stone details on buildings and over doors

An icon - Mexico is a very religious society.  Lots of devotion to the church and its figures.
Musicians everywhere, some good, some bad - but all want a tip.

View from above - city  circa 80.000 people

Yep - it's jello

To die for!

View from our Patio...of something grande ?

This is the main church on the central square - the Jardin.  Called La Parrochia, the facade was redone in the 1800's, tho the inside is a church of the 1500's
